Rumors

I was just informed that there is a rumor circulating that Shady Jack's suffered a fire sometime in the last few days. This is blatantly untrue. I just left Jack's and the place is as nice as ever and preparations are well underway for tomorrow's festivities. I am planning on dropping in there briefly before heading over to Geos Wings for their Customer Appreciation Day.

I went to Jack's because someone called and told me I was the source of the rumor--news to me! This is the third time this year I have heard about people claiming to be me and attempting to start rumors. The first occurred shortly after our swap meet in Collinsville, Il. At that time I was supposedly calling bars in Illinois and telling them that the Illinois helmet law had been overturned. The second was when Dan Kleinhans called me to tell me that someone claiming to be me had called his advertisers and made claims. Now this latest-- and these are just the ones I have heard about. For all I know there are others of which I am not aware.

Those of you who read the magazine or this blog know I am not above taking shots, in fact I have been chastised for it. But you also know that when I take a shot, I sign it. I let everyone know that I take responsibility for what I write and say. There is truth in everything I say or write. Sometimes this truth is stated to make my point, but I do not do it anonymously nor do I whisper stuff in the shadows. No, I put it right out where all can see it AND see who said it.

If you hear someone saying things that seem outlandish about me or my staff members, feel free to contact me and I will deal with you in a straightforward manner because that is the way I believe everyone should act.

Id say it was the person standing next to you at Show-Me's when you handed out your fliers and claimed that Shady's burnt down. You know? The person who said he was going to Shady's and then you told him "You didnt hear? It burnt down"
Take a good whiff of yourself Jim. Smelling the shit yet? That was low. As for the other so called rumors, ya never know whos listening to you Jim.

There were no fliers handed out at Show-Mes and anyone who was there knows that, they also know that I said Jack's would have a nice crowd because they will.

The truth is that as a matter of principle I feel it is inappropriate to hand out fliers at one establishment for events at other establishments. An exception to this is charitable events which Geo's Customer Appreciation Day isn't or if there are billboards where other events are posted.

I was at Show Mes the night Jim was there no flyers were handed out, there wasnt even any there to hand out that I saw. Think about it, would any busness man go to a wing place and hand out flyers about an event at another wing place. The owner of Show Mes probably wouldnt take that too well.
As for whos spreading all the rumors well, who has the most to gain by putting Jim/The Biking Life down, maybe its someone who wants to sell ads to TBL customers.
Think for yourself folks Jim and TBL hasn't been around this long by practing underhanded busness tricks and maybe those who do won't be around much longer.

Actually, this kind of thing is bad for us all. This rumor came from SOMEWHERE. It didnt just drop out of the sky. And for whatever reason all PUBLIC fingers point here. I have personally tried to smooth hard feelings over with Jim but its always a short lived fix. At first I was pretty upset when I heard about this rumor, but im learning that things like this are going to continue and are not in my control. Its a damn shame being as we are all in the same buisness. Paths are going to cross, and yes we are all going to be in the same buisnesses. Thats a no brainer. I personally feel like the crap going on is a very unprofessional way of representing ALL of our advertisers, and putting the name of a buisness in a blog surrounded by negativity is wrong and hurtful to that buisness.
Yesterday F.T.M. teamed up with T.R. and had a VERY successful event that will talked about for a long time. The motorcycle world is all about freedom! Any one person who stakes a claim to any part of it is missing the whole idea.
I wouldnt DARE go into a buisness and run down their choice of advertising. Thats just dumb. Will I offer them a better deal? If I can, hell yes! Our magazines are a success because of THEM mainly. Jim, if your going to be as openly opinionated as you brag to be, this kind of thing will more than likely continue. This is america and you have the right to say what you want. But your going to have to accept that fact that it can have a downside as well. You HAVE said alot of untruths and made false claims. I could go back into your past blogs and point them out but as usual, im far to busy to go there and it will just bring more drama to this boring ass subject. I wont comment on this any further.

I am happy that Jack's Bash was a success, too bad Jack wasn't given any credit for that success by others. I knew that the party at Jack's would be successful. He attracts a lot of motorcyclists on a regular basis. Joy and I personally told people that it was going on when asked. Geo's had a good day as well, that is cool. There is room for many events on any given day. Proof of that can be seen in the events calendar

No one, except someone trying to impersonate someone else, would make a ridiculous claim about a place burning down. All anyone has to do is call to find out. In addition, the rumor that it burned down probably would prompt people to come out and look AND the person who made the false claim would look pretty stupid. I can tell you that Jim is not stupid. The only reason for anyone to pretend to be Jim is for their own personal gain.
Jerry, I agree with the lack of professionalism shown by whomever is impersonating Jim and spreading rumors. I have seen Jim try to be friendly with you. Your post indicates who is really trying. By acting as if it's true that Jim spread these rumors, we can see who is unprofessional. I would be VERY careful about mentioning false claims. Someone I know saw you trying to tell a business person that Jim had spread the rumor about Shady Jacks by using that blog post from Keven. I know you weren't at ShowMes so all you have is a post on a blog, but you were trying to pass it off as the truth. Again, who is unprofessional? By the way, Keven wasn't there either because no fliers were handed out! Your implication that Jim or any of the Biking Life staff try run down a business' choice of advertising is disingenuous at best. Funny how you cry about Jim taking shots, but you get on his blog and try to do the same. Only difference is that he never mentions a person or business directly; the people who post nasty comments here just make assumptions. I can only guess that may be because Jim's comments hit too close to home. You, several anonymous others and a more than likely couple of fictitious persons, on the other hand, have personally attacked Jim on this blog. I like your copycat part about freedom since Jim mentions that all the time in The Biking Life. Nice that you noticed. You say you are busy, but you have free time to visit The Biking Life's website, monitor the blog there and even post comments. Maybe you're not really that busy, but glad you want to stay informed about what is happening in the biker world. By the way, we had a great time despite the false rumors spread about a large police presence at Geo's Wings yesterday.
To the person(s) who are doing this impersonation of Jim, even if you block your number, the phone company can retrieve that information, so you cannot really be anonymous. Since I am certain you monitor this blog regularly, I am posting the following. You have got to be VERY desperate to try these kinds of techniques to achieve your personal or business agendas. If you can't achieve success without all these juvenile dirty tricks, maybe you are not very good at what you do.

I follow all of the magazines and im sure Jim would be very surprised as to exactly who I am. I advertise my buisness in his rag and though I respect the man he is well known for his bitching and moaning about rival rags.
To Keven I would say, you must not be to familiar with Jims past postings. Better educate yourself on them my friend.
To Jerry (if that even was Jerry) I commend you on your post, but suggest you steer clear of putting yourself on here anymore. Your not going to get anywhere.
To Jim Im not going to put my name or buisness public here. You will find out who I am when my contract is up and I no longer do buisness with you.

Anonymous I do not have all that many contracts with advertisers I am a little more old school. I believe in things like the value of a handshake. That said if you want you can call at any time and I will let you out of your contract. I want folks to be happy not feel like they are forced into anything.
