I Take Great Pride

Hi readers someone told me one of my competitors is claiming to have a bike night that rivals what we do at Geo's Wings on a regular basis. The thing that makes me proud though is they combine attendance at 3 franchised locations, of a company headquartered in Florida, they themselves are franchised out of Florida, they partner with a radio station that is headquartered in Indianapolis and a brewer that is headquartered in Belgium, it takes all these out of towners with vast resources to compete with The Biking Life magazine and Geo's Wings two independent local businesses. In fact my competitor now has people attending our bike night because in their own words it is fun and they know it is a place where they will find a lot of bikers. I guess I should take that as a compliment.

Sir,
I follow all 3 of the local Magazines and its common knowledge to everyone in the motorcycle community that The Biking Life compared to Thunder Roads, and/or Full Throttle is like comparing a flyer to People Magazine. Yes I do read your publication but its a very short read sir. To sum it up, you fall very short of those you call competitors.
Furthermore, I have been an employee of the brewer you speak of here for 16 years. Lets not forget that the employees here are still hard working locals who depend of this brewer to feed thier families. What kind of beer is sold at Geos bike nights? When I was there, most of it was labled by the brewer you speak of here.
I will forward your blog here to your competitors since im sure they are to busy putting out a quality magazine, than to read your online banter. Its a smart thing you didnt "quote" them as Im sure your claim as to what they said are false.
I, along with my friends go to Geos wings because its a good time with friends. I could care less if its Biking Life, Full Throttle, or a Thunder Roads event. I support Geos and my favorite past time. Geos wings bike nights would be a success with, or without you. I hope Full Throttle keeps coming. I love their magazine. I hope Thunder Roads comes. Its about the people Jim, and supporting a good buisness. Its not all about you and your flyer. Cya thusrday.

Chris, I thank you for your comments. I know not everyone agrees with what I say or with what I do. It means a great deal to me that you take the time to read my blog and that in some way it moved you. I am always looking for ways to improve all that I do and I will give your comments careful consideration. I also appreciate the fact that you identified yourself instead of remaining anonymous as you could have. I am sure we have met before but would truly like you to reintroduce yourself. I fully support the fine people that work for the brewery, my own grandmother was August Busch's personal secretary many years ago and my father worked for a while there. I do hate the fact that many have lost their jobs and hope that that trend stabilizes or improves. Thanks again for your time and I hope to see you soon.

I also agree with you that it is about the people and that is why I am out with bikers every single day of the week.

Kudos to Chris. Jim, you just dont get it do ya? I seen it and heard it first hand last night at PTs. This is the very first time ive been on your web site. After reading your blogs and some intros on past issues, I have been very entertained. I have to tell you man your being laughed at. Why dont you just fall to the ground and throw a fit like my 2 year old does? Ive been going to geos wings bike nights for a long time now, and hardly noticed you were there. Its a good time, but that has nothing to do with you or your magazine. Your actually making claims that geos is a success because of you. Are you serious? You need to chill man. Your making yourself look like an ass and alot of people are getting tired of hearing you bitch. Ill be honest with you, last night at PTs was alot of fun. Ive seen jerry and tracy before but actually met them last night. Super people. Smart move on PTs part for asking them out. They added alot to the night. Can you imagine how big geos would be if the other 2 magazines were there to? They could be meeting and talking to people and taking pictures while you pouted at a table. You need to stop jim. People are going to start avoiding you so they dont have to hear it anymore. Excuse me if I dont put my name here. I dont want to be caught up in your drama

I have taken these comments as the constructive criticism I am sure they were meant to be. I thank all who commented for their opinions.

I also attended the PT'S BIKE NITE & had a Great time. Imet the reps fron Full Throttle Magazine and they were very cordial. I attend Shady Jacks Bike Nites on Wednesdays and they are fantastic.I do however agree with Chris & Anonymous about your attitude. You seem to think Your Rag is tops in the Midwest, but it's not in alot of Biker Circles. I know i would hate to have the FTM Crew pissed off at Me. Jim, You better chill out or as the saying goes " SHIT ROLLS DOWN HILL"

Wow, with the exception of the first post here, these don't seem in any way constructive. Personal attacks without correct facts are a waste of time and space. Neither of the other mags even offer a blog on their sites for any kind of interaction. I noticed that no one managed to refute anything that Jim originally posted. Sounds like posts from people with their own agendas, rather than credible information.

I totally agree with you on personal attacks. Everyone has heard plenty of personal attacks from The Biking Life staff towards the other two mags. Most of the claims made toward them are totally false and twisted and it would appear that the public is simply tired of hearing about it.

Alright, from what I understand, Geo's holds a bike night BECAUSE of The Biking Life. They didn't even have a bike night until Jim wanted to hold one there. So to say that Geo's bike night would be a success without TBL is rather...Ridiculous. I've seen all three magazines, I have to say in my opinion Full Throttle and Thunder Roads have VERY little to do with our local area in terms of articles. Not to mention the extreme amount of ads compared to The Biking Life. And the ads disguised as articles in the other two. I prefer to read The Biking Life because it has some real content to it. And content that relates to ME. And not some group down in Florida or wherever. Yes that can be interesting from time to time, but it has little to nothing to do with my community. The Biking Life supports LOCAL charities and LOCAL people.

I've never heard The Biking Life staff attack the other magazines in a personal manner. Also, The Biking Life doesn't attend other magazine's gigs and try to schmooze. Quite unprofessional of those magazines if you ask me. It's one thing to try to gain advertisers and followers, it's another entirely to go to events held by rival magazines and try there. It's rude.

As for the public being tired of "claims" and "attacks" from the Biking Life (which I still have yet to have examples of) let your feet and your money do the talking. If you don't like it, don't attend Biking Life stuff, don't read the blog, don't read the magazine. I'm sure we can do without your negative attitudes towards The Biking Life. I'll also remind you, the other two magazines don't even have a blog as far as I'm aware.

I'm sure there are plenty out there who can attest to false claims made by the other magazines. In any case, can we cut the immature drama out of this? If you have something to say, say it in a constructive manner instead of falling back on the internet equivalent of "you're a big poopie head 'cause you said something I didn't like!" Give some facts, details, SOMETHING useful. And can we please behave like adults here?

Ok, ill make this short. I was getting married yesterday and my phone is blowing up over this blog bashing to the point of having to turn it off. I come on here and read it, and think this is getting really dumb, really fast. All 3 Rags have the same purpose. Promote the the businesses who advertise with them, and provide a quality rag for the riders. Im sure this space wasnt put here for childish bashing. It takes ALOT of time, and very hard work to put out a rag of ANY sort. There are alot better ways to support them than this crap.
