Military ID

I have received several comments on my posting of my military ID in this month's magazine. I wanted to let people know a little about my background and the reason for my support of the military and veterans. The response has been overwhelming and I appreciate the support many have shown me.

Chaos, do you have any idea how many of the troops in the middle east now are also reservists? I served 10 years in the Missouri National Guard, but it was after I got out that my former unit was sent to Iraq for a year.

If you watch the local news in St Louis, they regularly show another local reserve or guard unit getting deployed overseas.

I did not find the current statistics. However, here are some interesting stats from a little while back.

In 2005, National Guard members and reservists were said to comprise a larger percentage of frontline fighting forces than in any war in U.S. history (about 43 percent in Iraq and 55 percent in Afghanistan). There were more than 183,366 National Guard members and reservists on active duty nationwide who left behind about 300,000 dependents, according to U.S. Defense Department statistics.

Yes Chaos, I was a reservist and in that capacity I was mobilized for two wars. I left family and friends to serve the nation in its time of crisis.

How did you serve?
