Illinois Harassment of Bikers

My fellow bikers look likes the home state is at it again:
Heard from a little Springfield birdie that the Illinois State Police will be having Motorcycle Inspection Stops on June 26th and June 28th in the Shelby, Vandalia and Effingham areas and I received another email saying Grafton or more likely the River Road has been added to the list the persecution continues.

I truly believe that this is an extension of the repeated harassment of 1%ers and event promoters like myself. Should everyone have a license and insurance no doubt but you are also innocent until proven guilty and cannot be forced to testify against yourself in court but on the street you can be forced to show that you do not have what they ask for. Hmm I wonder what the penalty for refusing to show a license and insurance is?

I am riding tonight

In fact I like that idea so much the first 5 people that show up at one of our bike nights during the next two weeks I will give them one of our retrospective DVDs. starting tonight at No Jacks Bar on ILL 159 in Smithton, IL also last week they started a drawing and the owner of the place seeded the pot with $500 where else could you possibly win that kind of money legally and get to hang out with friends.

What I am doing

Getting ready to head to Jack's Iron Horse Bar and Grill for the Hartbauer/MxcBride Party. This is an event for charity There is another event downtown being sponsored by a local promoter who doesn't want people wearing patches at his other events, nuff said.

There is another event though going on at 5300 North Broadway a save the bar party at the Broadway Bistro Zoo. Where the real party animals go they are having lots going on with bands and spaghetti wrestling this lady tries to make her bar for bikers and deserves our support, rather than people who limit our freedom. That is what America and bikers are about freedom and independence not really about making the most bucks and vendettas.

Friday & Saturday Broadway Bistro Zoo Block Party

(Click on the Flyer for Larger View)

A Request for Help and You Get to Party

The Broadway Bistro Zoo 5300 N Broadway in St. Louis is having a fundraiser to help save the bar. The owner needs our help to raise money so she can buy the bar and save this St Louis landmark from being turned into a place that would not be biker friendly as it is now. There will be bands and all sorts of fun activities going on all weekend including the girls from Unleashed Entertainment in spaghetti wrestling. Please come out and support the bar, the owner is truly hardworking and has created a haven for motorcyclists on the north side of St Louis.

This is where the real party animals party.

Thursday Night Acctivities

Today is Thursday which means another fun night at Geo's Wings. This Belleville, IL hot spot on West Main st is by far the area's most popular bike night. We even had some guests last week that it appears were trying to see what makes a successful bike night. I invite all of you to come out and experience Geo's and then afterwards PT's in Centreville, IL Bike Night

I would also like to remind all of you that this Saturday is the Annual Hartbauer/McBride Foundation dance. This is a dance supported by many of the local clubs and organizations and is very strongly supported by us at The Biking Life I urge you all to attend this event. There are other events this weekend that are being sponsored by entities that have events where you are not allowed to show your allegiance to the organizations/clubs that you belong to. You know we will not be there, I cannot tell anyone what to do, or what to wear nor would I want to, I'll leave that to others. You must judge for yourself whether you want to support people and businesses who do not support true bikers.

New Pevely Missouri Drop Location

I know some of you who live down south, (in the Pevely area) were used to finding the magazine at certain locations. At some of those you can no longer find the people's choice for reading material, so I thought I'd post here a new location where you can get it in that area. I usually don't do this sort of thing because the only way some folks(ie. my competitors) can find a bike related location is if they read about it or see an ad in The Biking Life. But now the Pevely Flea Market will have them in a rack inside the main building. My apologies for not making this arrangement sooner but at least it did get done. As always I thank you for making us part of your biking life.

The East Side Gestapo

is at it again. Yes the local members of the Hell's Angels were going to have their Annual Summer Bash at Paddy McD's, I think it is in Mitchell, IL but not sure this coming Saturday. It is an open party that the public is invited to. I have been to this event several times had fun and not seen any behavior I haven't seen at any event. Yet for some reason, rumor has it, the Illinois State Police approached the owner of the establishment and told him he could lose his license if he allowed the party to go on there. This man fearful of losing his livelihood, much like we lost money at our swap meet by the overbearing police presence relented so the party has been moved to Blondie's in Washington Park.

This is the third incident in less than one year where the police have tried to stop or stopped events. Last summer they stopped a Sons of Silence Ride in Central Illinois. Shutting down the bars on the route and generally harassing people. You saw their presence in Collinsville, IL and now this.

These are not elected officials who are making these decisions but rather law enforcement officials who in the truest sense answer to no one. I thought our forefathers came here to get away from that sort of treatment. When you get stopped at a safety Check Point and asked for your license and insurance, how different is that from when the Nazi's would stop folks and ask to see their transit papers, not much I don't think.

I imagine some of you are saying to yourself, well, I don't mind if they do that to the Hell's Angels MC or Outlaws MC or Sons of Silence MC but when you think like that what you forget is how long does it take before somebody decides they don't like your group and then you may find yourself on the other side of the argument.

A place you don't want to be if all a law enforcement official has to say when asked why is their usual "Because I said so." People if we do not awaken to these issues soon we will find ourselves even worse off. Thanks for making us part of your biking life.

Happy Anniversary to My Wife

Today is the third anniversary of what was at that point the happiest day of my life but each passing day has gotten better. I love you Joy!!! Happy Anniversary

The First Week Of June Motorcycle Activities

It is the first weekend of Jun and you know that means the first half of the year is almost over. It also means that we are starting our 7th year of publication. That is a pretty awesome accomplishment especially considering the business climate the last couple of year but you guys have supported us and our advertisers and we love you for it. Tonight starts another busy weekend. I will probably show up at Geo's on West Main St in Belleville for a very short while but there are still magazines to be delivered so I'll mostly be running tonight but it looks good and you should go and afterward make a stop at PT's in Centreville with secure bike parking at the door and some of the cutest girls around what a perfect place to end your evening. This weekend The Biking Life will have a booth at the Make A Wish ride in the Sara Lee Complex at Earth City and we invite you to come out and join us. If you can't make it then please go to their website and make a donation as part of our team. This will also be an opportunity for you to meet the Machine Gun Preacher and to purchase a ticket for the Jesse James Chopper that is being raffled to help support his mission in Africa. Tonight in The Biking Life

Tonight is Wednesday night and though there are magazines that need to be delivered I am still planning on making it to Show-Mes in Fairview Heights, IL for one of the East sides fastest growing bike nights brought to you by your friends at The Biking Life. Additionally there are the bike nights at Hot Shots across from the South County Mall and at the Jamm In in House Springs. I am hearing good things about both of those too. I hope to see you out tonight.

New Issue Online

I am not in a place where I can post the cover right now but if you visit our home page and click in the box directly below where it says June 2009 (yes in the empty space and you're mouse pointer should change showing you that it is different). If you do that you can now see our June issue. I will be busy this evening late into the night but will try to ensure that there is a cover shot there for you tomorrow. Thanks for making us part of your biking life.

Tonight in the motorcycle world

It is Tuesday and the weather looks like it will be awesome. So I invite all of my friends especially those in the St Louis area to enjoy the bike night at No Jacks on Hwy 159 in Smithton, IL tonight. In addition to great drink specials they also have 1/2 price appetizers this is a great place right on the outskirts of Smithton. See you there
